Shine Without Sulphates - A Review Of Liz Earle Haircare*

I guess I'm a little late to the party on this one, but as I've said before sometimes life gets in the way. If your a regular reader of LouLouLand  you'll probably already be aware of two things - first of all I am a huge Liz Earle fan and secondly you'll know that I am a shampoo junkie. Well late last year I was given the chance to combine these two factors and try out some products from the Liz Earle haircare range.

Taking over 5 years to develop the range comprises of 5 products, all of which embrace the principles and philosophies of the Liz Earle brand. The products are all SLS free, animal friendly, and are predominantly plant based.

The haircare range works in exactly the same way as the skincare line, it contains just one shampoo for all  hair types, and three hair conditioners, one for normal hair, one for fine or oily hair, and one for dry damaged hair, The final product in the range is a Botanical Shine Treatment, which is an intensive conditioning treatment for frizzy, coarse and unruly hair.

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo

The first product I was sent was the Botanical Shine Shampoo. As I say the Liz Earle Haircare line works on similar principles to the skincare line, Cleanse & Polish is the only cleanser in the range and is suitable for all skin types, and Botanical Shine Shampoo is the only shampoo in the line and is suitable for all hair types.

Packaged in squeezy tube in the familiar duck egg blue colour, the shampoo contains all sorts of lovely ingredients including aloe vera, shea butter, vitamin E, and orange and apple extracts. The shampoo itself has a cloudy pearlised appearance and a runny texture.

As you would expect from the ingredients it smells lovely and fresh. I used it in the normal way and it produces a gentle creamy lather. It took Mummy Lou a little while to get used to this if I'm honest, she was guilty of using a bit too much product, because it doesn't contain any SLS or any other nasties you don't get masses of lather, so she made the mistake of using more shampoo, when in fact all she needed to do was add a bit more water.

This is a really nice gentle shampoo, my hair felt very clean but not stripped or dry. If you want a good SLS free shampoo that would be gentle enough to use every day then I would definitely recommend this one. Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo retails at £10.00 for a 200ml tube and at £5.75 for a 50ml tube.

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Conditioner For Dry Damaged Hair

As I said before the Liz Earle line features 3 hair conditioners depending on your hair type. My hair as I've said on numerous occasions can  be a bit of a nightmare, I do try to look after it, but I'm on too friendly terms with my heat appliances and the hair dye for it to be in great condition and my medication doesn't help either, so I was delighted to receive the dry damaged variant.

Again packaged in a squeezy but this time a white one, this conditioner contains similar ingredients to the shampoo, it contains a high volume of shea butter to combat dryness, and again the apple and orange extracts to add shine, and as you would expect it has the same fresh, almost fruity / aromatherapy smell.

The amazing aspect of this conditioner though is the texture, it's really thick and very creamy and it has almost a body butter type texture. I used it just as I would any other conditioner and worked it through damp hair after shampooing, I then left it for about 5-10 minutes before I rinsed it out. Given the thickness of the product I was a bit worried that it would be difficult to rinse out, and that it would leave my hair heavy or greasy. I needn't have worried it washed out really easily, and my hair was left soft, smooth and tangle free. Again this product was another winner with me you really didn't need much to make a real difference to your hair. I like this product so much that I haven't used any of my intensive conditioners or hair masks since I started using this which is praise indeed. Liz Earle Botanical Shine Conditioner retails at £10.00 for  a 200ml tube.

I have to say Liz Earle as brand just continues to impress me over and over again. The brand produces a range of simple yet effective products that really do the job, and their hair products are no different. You can purchase Liz Earle from their fabulously friendly online store, or from John Lewis or QVC x Have you tried Liz Earle haircare ? and have you tried the Botanical Shine Treatment ? which is next on my list to try please let me know in the comments xx
