Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfumed Candle - Rose Absolute*

After another couple of lousy weeks in LouLouLand, I've been in serious need of a bit of a meditative and reflective time, so every night I've been lighting a candle and trying to use it as a tool for relaxation. Over the last few months I've been burning a lot of food, and spicy fragrances but I'm trying to switch it up a bit and look forward to the lighter nights and the spring. I already have a nice collection of fruit and floral scented candles but I decided to shake it up and try something new from My Pure.

I've tried a couple of candles from  Latvian brand Isle of Wolf now (read my reviews here and here) and I've grown to love their ethos, and their subtle and natural aromas so I decided to try another fragrance- this time I went for Rose Absolute.

Based near the shores of the Baltic Sea, this family company operates out of the historic Vilksala manor house. Vilksala literally translates as Isle Of Wolf, and the house and it's gardens provide inspiration for all of the candles that they produce.

Every candle is made by hand, using traditional methods, from 100% pure plant wax. All of the soy wax that they use is free from genetic modification and their naturally sourced cotton wicks are lead free, for a cleaner, safer, and more even burn. Their fragrances are also carefully sourced and they only use 100% natural aromas taken from both essential oils and plant extracts, and they are also suitable for vegans.

All of their candles have a 40 hour burn time and come boxed, and packaged in either a white or a black glass votive, in this case it's a black one which gives a very high end end sophisticated feel, and contrasts brilliantly with the creamy whiteness of the wax. The votive also comes with an attached cardboard coaster to protect your furniture from scratches and the heat which is a nice touch.

Think of a rose fragrance and you automatically think of that powdery, true English rose aroma, this though has a little bit more depth. The Isle Of Wold Rose Absolute scent is based on the fragrance of the Vilksala manor gardens, it's described as "the bursting ripe sweetness of rose flowers with fresh notes of red fruits and green leaves plus subtle touches of powder musk"

Fragrance is a hard thing to describe but for me I can definitely see where the official description is coming form. I definitely get a bit of the traditional rose scent but I also get a hint of maybe some green, herb notes, and a bit of geranium, with an almost sugary, powdery finish

This candle burns cleanly and evenly but for me it just doesn't seem to have as strong a fragrance throw as the previous Isle Of Wolf candles that I've tried. You can definitely smell it but this candle is really a one for a smaller room, such a bedroom or a bathroom, rather than my large open plan living room. If you like strong, heady fragranced candles then this one isn't for you but if you like a more subtle, intimate fragrance, with a high end interior magazine appearance then this candle could be right up your street. The Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfumed Candle in Rose Absolute retails at £15 from My Pure. Are you a fan of rose fragrances? Leave me a comment and let me know x

Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfumed Candle - Lavender Garden - A Review For My Pure*

The nights are really drawing in now, it getting darker earlier and there is definitely a nip in the air. Although I'm going to keep praying for an Indian summer, I think I'm more likely to need my scarf rather than my sandals!

I burn candles all year round, but there is something about burning a candle when it's dark and cold outside that makes you feel all warm, and cosy. Although I'm normally quite a hot person, I'm really feeling the cold at the moment so I decided to try and warm myself up. at least mentally, with a candle from one of the two brands available at My Pure, Isle Of Wolf.

Isle of Wolf are a family firm that are based in Latvia, on the edge of the Baltic Sea, who make candles in the traditional way. Their candles are made from pure plant waxes, they use lead free cotton wicks, and they're fragranced with only 100% pure essential oils. Their candles are also free from genetically modified ingredients and they are suitable for vegans.

Way back in February I reviewed my first candle from Isle Of Wolf and I have to say I was impressed. The Cinnamon Spice scent I reviewed then, was warm and comforting and whilst I want something comforting, this time I wanted something a bit more relaxing so I went for one of their many floral fragrances, Lavender Garden.

Lavender is one of those fragrances that people often love or hate, and it's easy to see why. When it's artificial and done badly, it's a powdery ,sickly excuse for a scent but when it's done properly, and with good essential oils, it will take you somewhere else, and that's exactly what this candle did.

From the moment that this beautiful ivory, gold, and lilac packaged candle arrived, the scent filled my home. You didn't even need to light it to experience the beautiful fresh, relaxing lavender scent. Yes the lavender dominates and this is most definitely a lavender candle but it also contains geranium, mint and fresh green notes to give it some more depth.

This candle is beautifully presented in a recycled, black glass votive, and it features an attached heat and scratch proof coaster which is a nice touch. This candle looks expensive and the black of the votive contrasts beautifully with the white, creamy wax candle inside.

Like the previous candle, that I tried from the brand, this candle had a clean, easy burn with very little sooting. The scent is strong enough to fill a room but again this one is probably best suited for more intimate fragrancing. For me this is a perfect bedroom candle, the scent is relaxing, and the stylish glass votive, and the quality of the ingredients gives it that sort of boutique, hotel feel.

Candles are available at every price point that you can think of, and whilst these candles from Isle Of Wolf, aren't the cheapest out there, what your getting is an environmentally sound, quality product, that has that a Pinterest worthy, glossy magazine look. These candles also burn for around 40 hours which is pretty impressive for the 190ml size. I've tried two candles from this brand now and I've been impressed with both of them so for me they are well worth the investment and I'll definitely be trying some more fragrances in the future. Isle Of Wold Natural Perfumed Candle in Lavender Garden retails at £20 from My Pure. Are you a fan of lavender? Let me know x

Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfumed Candle - Cinnamon Spice - A Review For My Pure*

If I was to take you on a tour around my house, you'd notice several things, cat hair, beauty products and candles. It's safe to say that I'm a bit of candle fan - there are candles everywhere, the lounge, the kitchen, the bathroom and of course in the bedrooms. As well as fragrancing the home (essential with 4 cats!) I find candle light incredible relaxing, and watching a flickering flame as anyone who has ever practised any form of meditation or yoga will know, is one of the best things for clearing your head when it's full of rubbish.

I have a brand of candles in my home that I swear by but recently I've started to think outside of the box and try some other brands. As I've mentioned before there are lots and lots of new items on natural beauty site My Pure and to my delight I noticed a new brand of candles, Isle Of Wolf.

Isle of Wolf are a Latvian brand based near the shores of the Baltic Sea, From their authentic manor house,Vilksala, this family run firm has revived the traditional craft of candle making. All of their candles are made from 100% plant waxes and are scented with only pure essential oils. The soy wax that they use is free from genetic modification and the wicks are lead free to produce a cleaner, safer burn.

There are currently 8 fragrance to choose from but with the cold weather and dark nights still upon us I went for the warming sound Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfume Candle in Cinnamon Spice.

The 190ml candle comes in a off white and gold box and this particular one comes in a sturdy dark, glass votive holder. On the base of the votive holder is an attached, heat and scratch proof coaster.

Inside the glass holder, the candle is creamy white in colour, and feels smooth to the touch. The candle size is 190ml and the brand claims that this candle will burn for around 40 hours.

The minute you open the box the fragrance hits you. Cinnamon Spice contains a combination of cinnamon, cardamon, clove and orange. The scent is a funny one to describe, unlike a lot of cinnamon candles on the market it doesn't smell like out and out cinnamon. Instead this candle has more of rounded, spicy, woody, citrus scent. Mummy Lou wasn't a huge fan of the scent, she's more of a pure cinnamon stick scent lover but I found it quite warming and comforting.

In the past I haven't always been the biggest fan of soy candles as I've often found them to be too smokey and dirty, but slowly but surely I'm coming around. This candle has a very clean, even burn, the flame is very steady and after burning it for around 5 hours I'm still yet to see any soot residue in the votive holder or anywhere else in the surrounding area

I have to say the scent throw from this candle wasn't enough to fill my large open plan, 70's style lounge. Given the size of the candle and the size of the room I was probably asking too much, but use it say in a smaller room, or in the bathroom or like I did on my bedside table, and you'll get a pleasant and acceptable level of fragrance.

Several things really impressed me about this candle - first of all the packaging - it looks expensive - think those boutique and posh fragrance company candles and you're about there. This is the type of candle that you would see in a home deco magazine and it's something that you would be proud to display in your home.

I also love the attached heat and scratch proof coaster. I usually burn my candles or either a glass or a marble surface but if you have wood furniture or you want to extra cautious you need to find a coaster - not in this case though because your coaster is built it. I think that this is a fabulous idea and I think that more candle companies should follow Isle Of Wolf's lead.

The final thing that I love about this candle is the burn, this candle has a really, really clean burn, you don't seem to get any smoking or excess sooting. Okay the fragrance throw means that this candle is only suitable for intimate fragrancing but what your getting is pure fragrance, with no added fumes or smoke.

These candles aren't cheap but for a gift or for a dressing table, or for anyone who is interested in home style and decor this candle could be a one to try, and I'll definitely consider trying some of the other fragrances in the future. Isle Of Wolf Natural Perfumed Candle - Cinnamon Spice 190ml normally retails at £20 from My Pure but it's currently on special offer at £18.
