Clinique Chubby Stick Cheers To Chubby Set - Review And Swatches

You should know by now that I'm a pretty honest person so I'm going to start this post with a bit of a confession, and it's one that applies to pretty every single post bar 1 that I'm going to be publishing in the run up to Christmas - This post like so many others is late in fact it's almost a year late!

Despite the fact that I love a bargain, I'm not a huge fan of the post Christmas sales, after being squished and stressed whilst shopping in the run up to Christmas, the last thing that I want to do is to go through it all again on Boxing Day. That said I have been known to brave the frustration of websites going down, and online queueing systems, to do a bit of sales shopping online. Although I used to be a little bit more slap dash, I'm not more selective about what I do buy, and way back in December 2017 I picked this Clinique Chubby Stick Cheers To Chubby Set up in the Boots sale.

At that point my lip colour collection was probably worse than it is now, but despite trying every chunky lip pen, and chubby stick inspired lipsticks I had never ever tried the original, and this kit gave me the perfect opportunity to try both of the Clinique Chubby Stick formulations, and some of their most popular colours.

This kit was obviously a one off for Christmas last year and as a result it's no longer available but I still think that it's worth talking about because of the shades are permanent and are still available in their full sizes from both the Clinique website, and from their online and in store concessions.

The kit itself came packaged in a compact and reusable metal tin, emblazoned with the Clinique logo. The tin contained 5 x1g Chubby Stick Lip Colour Balms, in both of Clinique's Chubby Stick formulations.

The original Chubby Stick formulation is the Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm, which contains both mango and Shea butter, and is designed to give the lips intense nourishment and a subtle sheen and tint. There were 2 of these in this kit 13 Mighty Mimosa and 07 Super Strawberry.

If you want a bit more coverage in your lip balm then Clinique also make the Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm, they have a similar ultra nourishing formula but with a more intense gloss colour. There were 3 shades in this formulation in this kit 08 Grandest Grape, 05 Plushest Punch, and 03 Mightiest Maraschino.

I'm going to talk about each colour individually but first just a few general thoughts x First of all Clinique are known for catering for sensitive skin so all of these products are fragrance free, and they have no real taste to them, which personally is a bit of shame since the names lend them so well to flavours and tastes.

Secondly, as you would expect for something called a chubby stick these are quite chunky, so if you have really thin lips you might have problems applying these neatly, it's fine with the original formulation but even on my full lips it was a bit difficult to apply the intense shades particularly on the cupids bow area without the need for a little bit of a clean up. It's not a serious problem you just have to be a bit careful, and you could of course use a brush for neater application

Finally as you can see these are the 1g size which is around half the size of a regular Chubby Stick, the components are probably a little bit more plastic based but they look pretty similar to their bigger cousins. The biggest difference though with these is that you can't twist them up or down so I can imagine it will get harder to use the more you use it and you will probably will end up using a lip brush to get the last bits out. Hassle ? Maybe but if you're anything like me you'll want to use every last bit of all of these colours.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm - 05 Plushest Punch

Plushest Punch is one of the Intense shades which are a lot bolder and a lot more pigmented. Plushest Punch is one of my favourite shades in the kit, I love pinks, and this is a gorgeous deep pink. For such a pigmented shade I was really impressed with just how moisturising it was and just how glossy the finish was. Given the moisture content it wasn't surprising that this colour transferred onto onto other humans, and of course glasses and mugs but considering the texture and finish the wear time was still pretty good. Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm - 03 Mightiest Maraschino

If you're looking for a lip colour for that Christmas party then Mightiest Maraschino could be the one, it's a lovely bright cherry red, with the merest hint of pink, so it's perfect if you normally shy away from reds. Again it's from the Intense line so the pigmentation is superb, it applies well, and it feels smooth and creamy on the lips. There was a bit of transfer again, and it did bleed and travel over the lip line a little bit so touch ups and careful application was needed but again it wore well, and once the gloss had faded it almost seemed to leave a stain on the lips

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm - 08 Grandest Grape

One good thing about kits like this is that they give you the opportunity to try out both products and colours that you wouldn't normally try, and one such colour is Grandest Grape. I'm not that experimental when it comes to lip colour but after trying this I think particular shade I think I need to expand my horizons. Grandest Grape is a deep plummy, berry shade again with some pink undertones. The pigmentation and colour payoff again was superb, and if anything this particular colour seemed to even more pigmented and more moisturising. It was probably the hardest shade to apply neatly, because it's such a deep shade the application needs to be spot on and given the creamy texture that wasn't that easy with such a chunky applicator, throw in the fact that it was prone to transferring and smudging then you'd think that maybe it wasn't worth the effort. Well let me tell you that it was, I've had several compliments on this lip colour, and if you can get past the need to clean up every now and then, it actually wore really well and again it seemed to almost leave a moisture filled stain on the lips, when a lot of the gloss had disappeared x See what you think in the pic below x

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm - 13 Mighty Mimosa

Now if intense bold colour isn't your thing, then this kit also contained 2 shades in Clinique's original Chubby Stick formulation. These shades are all about the treatment, and less about the colour, they impart all of the moisture only with a sheer, more natural colour, that for some is a lot more wearable for every day.  Mighty Mimosa is the perfect peachy, nude, pink shade, obviously the pigment isn't quite as intense as the other 3 shades but there is still a bit of colour there. You obviously get the same burst of moisture, but you also get a hint of sheer glossy colour.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm - 07 Super Strawberry

Again Super Strawberry offers intense moisture, with just a hint of glossy light strawberry pink colour. Both this and Mighty Mimosa are shades that will suit everyone, the colour doesn't last quite as long, but with these less pigmented shades they are really easy to reapply even with the chunky tip, and you needn't worry as much about bleeding, smudging or going over the lip line.

I am so so pleased that I picked up this kit, I have been pretty impressed with a lot of the Chubby Stick dupes, but now I've tried the real thing I can now say that I completely understand the hype! and Plushest Punch is definitely on my repurchase list. As I say this particular kit is not longer available but all of these shades are available in the full size for around £18.50 each. If you want to experiment a bit or if you're already a Chubby Stick fan then there are a number of limited edition kits around at the moment that may fulfil your Chubby Stick fantasies (that sounds so wrong but I can't resist lol). If you are already a fan of Chubby Sticks then the Clinique website is selling a kit called The Chubbettes which contains 20 x 1g shades, it's an investment at £68 but you probably wouldn't need to buy any more lip colours for a long, long time. If you're after something similar to what I picked up last year though then Boots are currently selling the Clinique Lip Out Loud set which contains 3 x 1g colours for just £15.50 which would a fab stocking filler, and if you want something that gives you the chance to try 5 shades, then you can get the Clinique Chubby Colour Make Up Gift Set from various retailers including Boots, Debenhams and John Lewis, for £25 and it contains 5 x 1g Chubby Sticks. There are loads of options out there if you're a fan of these and I have to say I'm now a convert so if you have any colour recommendations then please let me know in the comments x

The Fragrance Shop Bank Holiday Flash Sale*

If you follow me on my blog or any of my other social media channels, you'll probably haven't learnt several things about me - no not the obvious things that I love food, or my cats, or that technology hates me, instead you'll probably have learnt that I love a bargain!

I love shopping at the best of times but if there's a chance of a free gift, or a discount believe me that I'm normally first in the queue. Shops must love me for that I guess and as my mam says they probably see you coming, but as long as you're staying within your own budget and not (cough) buying things that you don't need then it's a pretty savvy way to shop.

I've decided to start another little series on my blog - it doesn't have a name yet and I'm sure it ever will, but from now, every now and then, I'm either going to be sharing some of favourite bargain buys with you or I'm going to pointing you in of the direction of some of my favourite sales, free gifts and discounts.

It's a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, and I know for a lot of that one of your favourite bank holiday activities is to go shopping, well if you're after a new perfume or a fragrance for yourself or  for someone you love then it might be worth heading to the The Fragrance Shop.

If you go online, or you pop into any branch between 12pm and 2pm, until Monday then you can get 15% off everything, and that includes high end fragrances from Tom Ford, Chanel, and Dior! That reminds me, I really must do an updated perfume collection video, I wear perfume every single day and it safe to say that I'm a bit of a fragrance addict, in fact I actually currently have a perfume wishlist! A Beauty Sale Haul Featuring Boots,SpaceNK And The Body Shop

As much as I love shopping, for some reason I can never seem to get excited about the post Christmas and January sales. I hate getting up early, and I can't stand all of the pushing, and shoving and hustle and bustle so I tend to avoid the shops until well into the New Year. Online shopping though is another matter and as soon as a lot of shops stop delivering in time for Christmas, you can pretty much guarantee, that their online sales will follow soon after.

I normally start off any sales shop by working out what I actually need, with clothes it's always the basics, but when it comes to beauty, I'm pretty easy, sometimes I'll go for things I know and love and sometimes I'll take advantage of a sale price to try something new.

I'm always a bit loathed to place online orders with SpaceNK, thanks to their over inflated postage but they had a few good offers on so I decided to take advantage and place a little order. A lot of stores seem to have had sale stock issues this year, and some of my order was subsequently cancelled so I didn't save as much as I would have liked but I did manage to get two things.

Lipstick Queen is a new brand to me and one that I'd wanted to try for a long time. This is the Lipstick Queen Chinatown Three To Thrill Set.

The set contains 3, 3g Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencils, in some of the brands most popular shades, Chinatown Chase, Chinatown Pink Bluff, Chinatown Catalina. I love this type of product so I thought that this kit would be a really good introduction to the brand. I think I'll get more use out of the pink based shades, Pink Bluff and Catalina, but despite looking a little bit scary in the tube Chase, is actually a much more wearable, subtle pale, coral, red, shade. Unfortunately due to the lousy weather we've had lately, I haven't managed to photograph any swatches for you but if you watch the video at the end of this post. hopefully you'll be able to get some idea of what they look like.

Although these pencils aren't full size I still think that this kit was well worth the money. It was originally £18 but I got it for just £7.50. Unfortunately this set seems to have sold out online but all of the shades are available in the full 7g size for £22 each.

In an ideal world I would now be showing you some of the beautiful Laura Mercier Creme Brulee products but it wasn't to be, so instead I'm showing you a beautifully boxed nail polish from Rococo.

The box maybe beautiful but the bottle itself it quite plain, thank heavens for the gorgeous colour inside.

It's quite hard to see here, but Rococo Nail Apparel in 8559 Mystic Luxe is a purple, blue shade which is crammed full of silver shimmer. My picture aren't really doing it justice but it a really pretty colour,

I don't think it's anything overly unusual but it looked so pretty, and since it was reduced from £12 to just £3, it gave me the perfect opportunity to try a new nail polish brand. This colour is still available on the SpaceNK website along with several other Rococo colours.

One of the brands that SpaceNK sell is This Works and whilst they did have a few kits in the sale they didn't have the one thing that I did want, so I looked elsewhere and thankfully Boots came up trumps.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a frustrating illness, you can either sleep the clock round or you can't sleep at all. I suffer from terrible insomnia at times, and after watching a few presentations on QVC I really fancied trying the This Works Plus + Pillow Spray.

I can be a bit funny with scent though, so I didn't want to launch straight in and buy the full size, so this seemed to be an ideal solution. The This Works Sleep + Cracker contains a 10ml bottle of the Plus + Pillow Spray which contains a variety of essential oils, and ingredients, which is clinically proven to help provide a better nights sleep. This cracker was originally £12 and I got it for £8, I haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

I can pretty much guarantee now that I'll get at least one Soap & Glory kit for Christmas, and Christmas 2015 was no exception. I was lucky enough to get the big The Whole SheBang set. I love everything in it and I particularly excited to try the tinted body cream, but at the same time I was a bit disappointed that this years set didn't include any of the Sugar Crush products. I love the zesty, yet warm lime fragrance so I couldn't resist buying this kit.

I admit it part of the reason I went for this kit was down to the bag, the Soap & Glory Get A Smooth On kit, came in a gorgeous, holographic silver, barrel bag.

I love anything holographic, and the fact that this bag contains products from the Sugar Crush was just a bonus. The bag contains a 500ml Soap&Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash. a 300ml Soap&Glory Sugar Body Wash and a 300ml Soap&Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream. Ahh limey heaven but my excitement quickly faded when I realised that there was a product missing!

This kit should also have included a 100ml Soap&Glory Sugar Crush Body Spray. I would normally have sent the whole kit back but it was sold out and I really wanted the bag so I emailed Boots customer service, and thankfully they came up trumps. They apologised and added 500 points to my advantage card - 400 to cover the cost of the product and 100 for the inconvenience. Thanks Boots, customer service at it's best even at their busiest time of year! This kit was originally £35 and I got it for £17.50 which was half price x

Something else that's become a bit of a Christmas tradition is The Body Shop and their festive fragrances. I picked up a few bits before Christmas but as soon as the sale launched online. I ordered a few extra bits.

I didn't go mad, and I only bought exactly what I wanted. I bought another 200ml bottle of the Frosted Cranberry Shower Gel, which I love and I've bought for years, and I bought a couple of the Glazed Apple items. I must admit I wasn't sure about the Glazed Apple range when it launched in 2014 but it's really, really grown on me. I think I wanted it to be a traditional apple fragrance but it's not, it's sharp, yet sweet, sugary and fruity. I can't describe it really but it's my in shower favourite at the moment so I bought a few extra bits to see my through the year as I don't think that it's a Christmas specific scent - I got a 200ml Glazed Apple Body Butter and a 250ml Glazed Apple Shower Gel. There are still a few festive sale bits available online so move quick if you want to stock up.

Although I didn't go totally crazy I'm still really happy with my sale haul. I picked up some definite favourites and a few new things to try so I'm pretty pleased. I've made a little video to accompany this haul, so have a watch even if it's only to see the Lipstick Queen swatches x

Sale And Non Sale Haul - H&M And Next

It's taken me over a month to get them all done but this is my final sale haul post. It's bizarre I honestly didn't think I'd bought that much - I was obviously wrong. This isn't just a sale haul though there are a couple of new season bits thrown in, it is nearly all about the clothes though with a couple of beauty and home bits thrown in.

First up Next, because I'm an account holder I always get a VIP invite to the online sale, so a few days before Christmas I logged in and checked out the sale listings. You can pretty much always guarantee a good discount in the Next sale but you have to wade through a lot of stuff. I actually ordered quite a few bits but I only ended keeping a few things.

I normally love Next home wear but there wasn't an awful lot in the sale that appealed but I did got for this cute double, sided cat sign. I'm not sure where it's going to live yet maybe in the conservatory, but I'm not sure yet.

Although it's now 11 months till Christmas I couldn't resist this festive purchase. This fabulous reindeer t-shirt was actually from the Men's line but who cares. I love Christmas jumpers but sometimes it's a little too warm indoors and this t-shirt fits the bill. It was £6 and it's still available on the Next websites clearance section.

Next up something that you will either love or hate - this bug scarf! The light grey, chiffon scarf is covered in images of beetles and insects. I honestly don't mind insects so it doesn't bother me at all in fact I find it really quirky and unusual, and it's completely different from any other scarf in my extensive collection.

As well as giving you the opportunity to buy quirky, and unusual items, sales also give you the opportunity to pick real basics, and wardrobe essentials. I'll let you into a secret, I'm a bit obsessed with nightwear, I love pyjamas, and night shirts so I always try to pick up a few things up every now and then. I don't buy a lot of nightwear in Next, not when you can pick up things for a 1/3 of the price in Primark, but I got did manage to get a few cute bits in the sale.

I love loose cotton based night shirts like this especially in the summer and I love the quote on the front "If You Believe In Dreams They Will Come True". I'm a firm believer in following your dreams and I hope that this shirt will help me to remember to follow mine.

As well as the night shirt I also got these cute, loud floral short pyjamas set. I fell in love when I saw it in the catalogue but I couldn't justify the £24 price tag - £12 on the other hand was easier to justify. Again this set is still available in selected sizes on the clearance section of the Next website. Alongside the PJ's I also got the matching slippers - I'm not a huge fan of slippers but after this weeks toe injury wearing shoes and slippers at all times is something I'm going to have to get used to.

So that was my Next sale order I did buy 3 things though from the Spring / Summer catalogue - long line vests! I'm a real vest fan I really feel the heat at times, so I tend to layer up and wear them with cardigans, kimonos, or under jumpers. So many vests on the market though are quite short, if you're a bit curvy around the hips and the tummy though short vests are no good. They finish at your worst point and show your flabby bits for all to see. The ones I got though from Next are very, very long and easily cover my stomach and the top of my hips and thighs. These vests are available in a wide variety of neutral shades. They're available on a buy more, save more deal, £6.50 for 1, £12 for 2, and £16.50 for 3. I went for 3, the navy which you can see here, and the cream and the nude which you can see in the video further on in this post.

The next part of this haul is courtesy of H&M. I can't do much with my local H&M stores but I am partial to a shopping session of their website. I still think their website has a lot of issues and their delivery times leave a lot to be desired but if your after the widest range of styles and sizes their website is the way to go. Again in the sale I went for basics and bought myself a couple of jumpers.

This first one is just a plain, long sleeved black, fine knit jumper from their Divided line. This jumper was just £5 and whilst it's very lightweight, it's really warm and ideal for layering. This is the jumper that I'm wearing in the accompanying haul video :) It's still available on the sale section of the H&M website in XS and S for £4

I love lightweight knits but sometimes just want something soft, warm and cozy and my next purchase fits the bill perfectly. In a lovely, neutral blush pink the long line jumper has a v neck and small side slits. I think it's in what they call an eyelash knit, it silky smooth and very strokeable. I already have a couple of cardigans in this fabric which I love, so this jumper is a welcome addition to my winter wardrobe. Unfortunately it's no longer available online but it was only £7.

This next H&M purchase was another one of those quirky buys that you'll not sure that you'll ever use or wear but you know you need it. I'd seen a similar faux fur scarf for £10 in Primark but I left it on the rail but as soon as I saw this one I added it to my basket. Again from the Divided line this black and white striped faux fur scarf has a satin lining and was £7.50. Annoyingly it's only £5 now but with sales you win some, you lose some, but at least I didn't pay Primark's £10 or the £14.99 that this one originally cost.

I've only got one other H&M sale item to show you and it's one of those things that I didn't really need but it's holographic loveliness called to me. This is the silver version of this make up bag but it also comes in a holographic pink shade, and you can still buy both for just £2 each.

The rest of my H&M purchases were all full price. First of all I got this set of silver tone, mesh, bracelets. I got the gold tone version a few months ago but for Christmas I got a necklace from my Godparents made of a similar silver tone mesh so I thought I'd get these silver tone ones to match. They  come in several different tones and retail at £3.99 for 4 bracelets.

My next purchase came from the beauty section, and no it wasn't make up, it was some Make Up Brush Cleansing Spray. I'm a big fan of this type of product and whilst they don't give a brush a thorough wash and clean, they do freshen up and sanitise the brushes in between uses. This was £2.99 and I'll let you know how I get on with it.

My final H&M purchase was from H&M Home. I really wish this range was more widely available in stores in the UK, but it's not so we're almost forced to shop online. I made a bit of a boo boo with this purchase I didn't read the sizes on the website so I was actually expecting something a bit bigger.

This set of 3 strong, cardboard, floral storage boxes are really pretty and well made but they are tiny! The largest box is only about the size of my hand. They will be ideal for gifting or for storage of small things like jewellery but I'm not really sure what I'm going to use them for. These boxes are £6.99 which I think is a bit pricey for the size.

You haven't seen a video from me for some time but I'm back on You Tube as of today. I've recorded my first video with my new camera and it's a haul video showing all of the items that you can see in this post. It's a bit of a work in progress with settings and lighting but hopefully the quality is a bit better than what it has been in the past and I'll be able to upload a lot more videos.

Sale Haul - Part 3 - Accessorize - Z For Accessorize And More

Accessorize is without a doubt one of my favourite shops on the high street. I do find it a little bit overpriced so I don't tend to shop there as often as I would like but it's way up there on my fantasy trolley dash list. One of the best things about sales is that they can give you the opportunity to buy things that you really, really want for a cheaper price and that's exactly what happened in this case.

A few month ago now Accessorize launched a collaboration with jewellery designer and daughter of the Monsoon and Accessorize founder Peter Simon, Zara Simon. The range Z For Accessorize features a wide variety of hand crafted, gold plated jewellery pieces, some of which contain crystals and semi precious gemstones. For me it was love at first sight and ever since the launch I've lusted after the entire collection.

As soon as the Christmas shipping deadline passed I started stalking the site, with my fingers tightly crossed that at least one or two pieces would make it into the sale, I was in luck most of the items that I wanted did appear in the sale, and whilst some of the discounts weren't huge, they made it easier for me to justify buying as many items as I did.

The majority of items I ordered were from the Aura range just a slightly irregular, circular faceted gemstone set in a gold plated setting. The first set of items that I bought all featured the amazing off white, slightly opaque gemstone that is Moonstone. The first item that I got was the Aura Precious Stone Necklace. Mummy Lou stepped in to model it for me because I couldn't trust her to take the pictures :)

She's more of a long chain fan so she found this one a little bit too short but I don't mind it I love dainty necklaces and if you wanted you could also layer this one up with a longer gold chain or even one with another pendant. I paid £7.50 for this necklace and whilst it's no longer available in this stone, you can get it a translucent, green shade for £15

I'm not usually a matchy, matchy person but I decided to go for a matching set and get the Aura Precious Stone Stud Earrings in White Moonstone to match.

I love the faceting and the slightly differing tones in each stud that you only get with natural gemstones. I also love the way that these earrings and this stone shows just a hint of the natural skin colour beneath. My only issue with these is how tight the butterflies were I'll definitely by replacing them with something a little looser I actually had to cut the card to get them off! Again the lovely Mummy Lou is modelling x 

The stud earrings appear to have been discontinued which is a shame I paid £6 for these but you can get similar drop earrings in the range for around £15.

All good things come in 3's so I also got the matching Aura Precious Stone Ring in Moonstone too. Again I love the faceting and the way it plays with the light and takes on my skin tone. I have really chubby fingers so I went for the Large size in all of the rings and they fit comfortably on both of my ring fingers. I would love it if in future they did the rings in XL but I love the rings in this range so much I'm sure I'll cope.

I paid £7.50 for this ring and whilst this particular shade is no longer available you can still get the green and pink variants for £15 each.

The rings in this collection really were the thing that caught my eye so I bought another 3. First up I got the Aura Precious Stone Ring is another variant. The shape is ever so slightly different and this time the ring features a Labradorite stone. Again it's faceted and slightly translucent so it takes on the warm tones of the skin beneath.

This one was also £7.50 and yet again it's no longer available on the Accessorize website but similar rings are around £15 and the 2 other Labradorite rings they have are £17 and £25 each.

The next ring that I got is also from the Aura range but this time it's the Mini Aura Precious Stone Ring. The stone is an Aqua Chalcedony, a gorgeous pale, smoky, sea green. Again it's faceted but this time it's an almost checker board facet and the setting and shape is a lot more regular and symmetrical.

This ring was £7 and surprise, surprise it's not available on the website either. Some of the green versions of the other rings though are made using the same gemstone but they aren't quite as delicate as this one.

All of the Aura rings can also be worn stacked for a different look but keeping with the more delicate theme, my final Z For Accessorize purchase is something that I would personally wear all it's own.

The Izzy Triple Precious Stone Ring comprises of three small irregular shaped, Amethyst stones in a gold plated setting. This is a really, small, pretty and delicate ring, the complete opposite of some of the other pieces in the range. This was my most expensive purchase at £8.40 but it's so wearable and comfortable it was well worth the money. This particular ring too is long gone but the Zara ring which is £12 is very similar and uses clear, and grey smoky crystals

I am so, so pleased with all the Z For Accessorize items that I ordered. The quality is great and I just love the style. Finances permitting I will be back for more and I've already got the Isha necklace, and the Jupiter ring in my sights.

I did buy one tiny other thing and it was something that I didn't need but I couldn't resist, the Feeling Lucky Coin Purse.

I'm a cat lover, and I love the whole idea of the Maneki Neko, or lucky cat. The cute zipped coin purse is covered in chubby looking cartoon white cats and I'm really hoping it brings me a bit of luck. Like so many of the things in this haul it's no longer available but for £3.50 I think it was money well spent, even if I have a little less to put in it.
