Product Rave - Making And Using A Lush Space Girl Bath Bomb

The humble bath bomb was probably one of the first products that I ever purchased from Lush's predecessor Cosmetics To Go. They were one of the first companies ever to create these fizzing shapes of loveliness way back in 1989. They make baths fun and in a way that only Lush can with sparkles, dried flowers and even popping candy appearing in these bicarbonate of soda filled bombs.

At the recent North East Lush Event we were given the opportunity to make one of their best selling and one of my favourite bath bombs Space Girl.

As it happened I'd actually used a Space Girl in my bath the night before the event so I was really excited to get the chance to make one.Space Girl has a really sweet, refreshing smell and included essential oils of grapefruit and bergamot.

They made the process easy for us so all we had to do was mix a combination of bicarbonate of soda, with a ready coloured and fragranced mix, with some glitter, sparkles and some popping candy.

We had to pop some gloves on as this was messy, lol then we had to fill the plastic planetary shaped molds with the bath bomb mix.

Then we sandwiched the two halves together and taped them together, and were given the instructions to leave it for 24 hours to harden.

We were told to to try and keep it upright, but unfortunately mine got a bit bashed up in my bag and emerged broken - sob :(

I'm thinking I should have put some more in my mold and maybe not brayed it around in my bag lol but it worked just fine. I've done a little video for you so you can see exactly how bath bombs work if you've being living under a rock and haven't tried them yet :) Excuse the shaky camera work it you can xx If you can't see it please check it here x

Space Girl has a really lovely smell, and it turns the water a gorgeous shade of lilac to purple. Like a lot of Lush bath bombs it's full of sparkles (Lush are no longer using plastic glitter!!!), but Space Girl also contains popping candy which gives it even more fizz and crackle.

Space Girl retails at £2.10  from Lush stores and online which means that its one of Lush's cheaper bath ballistics - still that is just for one bath though, so their not the cheapest bath option on the market but their probably one of the most fun options out there and you can always try my mums trick and smash them up with a hammer to get more than one use out of them LOL. Are you a fan of Lush bath bombs? let me know in the comments and please let me knows which one is your favourite ?

Budget Beauty Series - MUA Shimmer Kisses Blusher And Giveaway - CLOSED

A little while ago now I ordered a huge batch of goodies from MUA, and this was one of the goodies that I picked up.

The Shimmer Kiss / Kisses comprises of a blusher and a bronzer, I'm more of a blusher so I went for one the blusher - Pink Shimmer Kisses

The Shimmer Kisses Blusher comprises of 4 colours ranging from the palest of pinks, to almost mauve and coral shades.

The shades can either be used individually or swirled together as you can see here.

Unsurprisingly all of the shades in the quad have a bit of shimmer in therm but I have to be honest and say that this isn't as pigmented as I'd hoped. The ridged molding and design of the blush doesn't help to be honest you need to almost work the surface away the first time you use it to get some colour payoff

I'm pretty pale at the moment and this blush only offers the a small flush of colour to the cheeks, and on darker skins I would suggest it would be better used as a highlighter. The photos weren't taken in the best of light to be honest but hopefully this pictures will give you an idea.

Don't get me wrong this isn't a bad product by any means I just would have preferred it to be a bit more pigmented and show up a bit more on my skin. If your scared of blush though or if you want an all in one blush and highlighter this might be the one for you and for just £3 it's worth the risk

If you fancy trying this blush I have one to giveaway plus a little extra which you may have seen in my Birthday Haul video.

Cute huh? All you need to do is be a follower of my blog by any of the listed means, and for extra entries follow me on You Tube, twitter and instagram - all the details are in the sidebars. This giveaway is open worldwide and will run till next Tuesday - the 4th June.

If you have any questions please leave me a comment and good luck x

Learning And Having Fun At The North East Lush Event - Very Picture Heavy

First of all huge apologies - this post should have been up at least a week ago, but for some reason it just didn't happen - probably because I needed to edit and choose photos from the massive number that I took, you know #bloggerproblems.

Anyways a few weeks ago now on Sunday 12th May, I was lucky enough to attend a bloggers event held by handmade cosmetic store Lush. The event was organised by the lovely Danny from Adventurers After Hours who just so happens to work in the Metro Centre store where the event was held.

Prior to the event I met up with several other north east based bloggers for a meal at GBK Gourmet Burger Kitchen :) I'll cover the meal itself in my Foodie Friday Monthly Summary post later in the week but the company was excellent and it was so nice to get the opportunity to have a proper chat with some fellow bloggers, some of whom I'd met before at FABB and some I hadn't.

As the event was held on a Sunday the store closed at 5pm, the event started at 5.30 so we had the store to ourselves.

Once we were given our name badges, Danny and 3 other members of staff (sorry I am terrible for names but they were lovely ladies :) gave us a talk all about Lush, their origins, their philosophy, and their innovations. They talked about products creation, their charitable work, their ethics on the environment and basically what it's like to work for Lush and their working practises. We also had the opportunity for a bit of sniffing, and squishing of some of the products and some of the raw ingredients - raw cocoa butter smells like heaven believe me !

I've been a Lush fan for years so I knew a lot of it but it was really interesting to see that it's a brand that had grown but hasn't lost sight of it's roots or its ethos.

After the talk we split into two groups and tried our hand at making some Lush products. The group that I was in had the chance to make one of Lush's most famous products, a bath ballistic.

The product was made was probably one of my favourites at the moment Space Girl, I'm going to do a full review post on this ballistic later this week for you :). It was a really fun experience and believe me it isn't as easy as it looks, despite wearing rather fetching plastic gloves it was impossible not to get covered in mixture and glitter - really good fun and it really helped break the ice with some of the bloggers who I hadn't met before.

When we'd made our products, we had the opportunity to have some soft drinks and some cupcakes or cake pops :) I was really good though and didn't have any cake event though they looked delicious :) I did take a cake pop home for my mum tho as she was kind enough to come and pick me up :)

After a little break we then swapped and my group has the opportunity to make another one of  Lush's most popular products the Angels On Bare Skin cleanser. Danny took charge and again we donned our blue gloves to help him add ingredients and to get our hands in and give it a good mix :) Again I'm going to do a full review post on this, it looks odd but it smells amazing!

Whilst we were mixing we had the opportunity to ask some questions, a question that I was asked to ask so to speak was about Lush and their use of SLS as a foaming agent - eek a controversial one. I was sure that they removed them, and I was right they did for a time, but as Danny explained a lot of customers complained that the products just weren't as good as they were so Lush listened and put the SLS back in. It's not to say that they won't replace them in the future with a gentler agent but not at the moment - people seem to love lots of foam it seems hmm. Which reminds me, Danny mentioned that if you have any queries or requests it's worth asking on the Lush facebook page, as the founders do often read it and often answer questions or act on suggestions  :).

When our Angels On Bare Skin was complete we basically had free run of the store, the staff were available to answer any questions that we had, and we had the opportunity to have a proper play with products and find out which products would be most suitable for our hair and skin types.

Sneaky Selfie

We also had the chance to have a try of the Emotional Brilliance make up line, They'd left the tills open for us so we could buy a few bits so I picked up a few things with some birthday money which you'll see in my Monthly Haul Post, and that  I'm going to review for you.

The staff were nice enough to let us stay as long as we liked, and on the way out we were given a fabulous goodies bag, which contained the products we'd made, a lip tint and one of these, a knot wrap.

I love knot wraps, I think it's a really cool way to wrap a gift up without anything going to waste, they are completely reusable. To make the wraps Lush either source vintage scarves or they make their own like this one from a fabric called Greenspun, which is made from recycled plastic bottles!!

I loved the scarf in it's own right as did Charlie, who is all for Fighting Animal Testing :) but the the knot wrap  itself was filled with two bagfuls of samples and a fresh face mask :)

Again I'll be reviewing some of these items for you over the next few weeks or so xx

I've been a huge fan of Lush since their earliest incarnation Cosmetics To Go so I didn't really need to be converted. I know some people aren't fans of some of their ways of raising awareness or some practises but in my opinion these are messages that need to be heard. This is one of the few brands out there that is really trying to make a difference and there succeeding. What came across from the event was the huge amount of enthusiasm and dare I say it love that Danny and the other members of staff have about the brand and the individual products, and it really rubbed off onto all of us they were extremely knowledgeable and hosted a very informative but at the same time fun event - they really were a credit to the company. Like every Christmas and birthday I received some Lush and inside my parcel from a relative was a money offer voucher - now what should I buy...

Thinking Slimmer - Slim Pod - Week 1

The picture says it all really after 7 days of using the Slim Pod system - I've lost 6lbs!!! I'm am so so pleased. I knew I lost something as my stomach didn't look or feel as bloated but 6lbs is a great start. I've had a few minor wobbles but nothing major. I've listened to the Slimpod Beach Body and Chillpod downloads every night so far which they recommend and so far so good. Is it working yet? well it's hard to say, I'd say my weight loss this week is definitely down to cutting down on the bad stuff, I'm still craving things and I'm still being tempted so we'll see. They say it can take at least 21 days to change our way of thinking so I'll see how I get on. You can read my post on Thinking Slimmer and the Slim Pod here x If you have any questions please leave me a comment and thanks for the good wishes, it really helps with my confidence and motivation to keep going an achieve the goals that I've set myself xx

All Thanks To A Lovely Lady Called Lottie

I have had so many amazing things happen to me since I started blogging bit perhaps the best thing of all in getting to meet and interact with so many lovely people. One of those people is Lottie from Lottiejxox. I started chatting to Lottie on twitter, bought a few bits from her legendary blogsales and our online friendship pretty much went from there. She is probably one of the sweetest people who I have never had the fortune of meeting, LOL I'm sure we will meet in person at some point in the future though - fingers crossed ;)

As you know it was my birthday on the 15th, and Lottie was kind enough to send me a boxful of goodies which I received yesterday :) I'm all for stretching birthday's out for as long as possible so her parcel put a huge smile on my face.

It was wrapped to perfection - very pressie has a gift tag with a little message on and every items was just me. The parcel pretty much represented all my major loves, craft, friends, cosmetics, and chocolate!

First up some cute card making 3D stickers, a Disney Villains address book, and the cutest Minnie Mouse notebook and a pen - she also wrote the sweetest message ever inside the notebook, which I was really touched by x

Next up some nail things, a gorgeous Sally Hansen nude polish, some nails wraps, and a nail art pen which I can't wait to play with.

and she also sweetly got me some make up - a fab Sleek lipstick and mascara, and another Milani quad :)

Finally something naughty, a gorgeous bar of Dairy Milk, I've added it to my Thorntons, and Percy Pigs to be consumed in emergencies or for special treats only "listens to Slim Pod repeatedly to take mind off chocolate" LOL

I just want to say a huge thank you to Lottie for being a thoroughly nice human being - at times it seems as though there aren't any good people left in the world but believe me there are and Lottie is one of them x

I'll try and do some reviews of the beauty things that she bought me when I can - I have so many things to show you and review for you that I really need to start getting my head into gear xx Thanks Lottie xxx
